Spekul uses a purpose-built digital platform for caving clubs. It contains a complete cave database management system and a caving club management platform, with full mobile support. New features are being added constantly, and members of the club are actively using it to look up information, including coordinates, rigging information and cave maps. The application is accessible from anywhere, desktop or mobile, which makes it very easy to use, wherever you are (offline support is planned for inside the cave).
Breakdown of the basic cave database features:
- Cave tool: Add caves, manage survey’s and pictures, find caves matching certain criteria, see basic info, location, rigging data,…
- Trip management: Plan and review trips, add users and keep track of what happened
- Rankings: Ranking statistics are available about cavers, who holds the leaderboard etc..
- User management: The application contains a full role-based access system, where some users have more rights than others. The app is currently invite-only.
- Mobile friendly: Everything is available on your phone, from anywhere in the world.
Much more features are planned, and the tool is in active development, based on feedback of users. Planned features include managing expeditions, drawing maps, importing data from disto’s, and others.
