Spekul, together with Secja (Madrid), is the organizing club for the explorations of one of the largest cave systems in Spain: Sistema de Alto Del Tejuelo. The largest caves in Spain are all located in the northern region of Cantabria.
The current development of the system is 130 kilometers, with a maximum depth of -615 meters. The system now has 12 entrances. The deepest entrance shaft is Torcon del Haya, with a depth of 276 meters. We visit the region about seven times a year: three longer explorations and three to four shorter ones. Due to the nature of the exploration, we often opt for an underground bivouac, staying underground for up to five to six days. We currently estimate the potential of the system to be around 200 kilometers. To achieve this, we are looking for connections with other known caves in the vicinity, such as Canuela, Coventosa, Aitken, and others. Furthermore, various clubs frequently explore new holes and conduct surface prospecting in the different sectors of the exploration area.
You can find more information on the expedition website or blog (both in Spanish) or on the Spekul blog.
