Cave initiation courses always follow the standard routes in a cave where no rope techniques are required. In exceptional cases, the participant must clip their lead rope into a guide rope or be belayed. These exceptions are listed below.

| Trou de l’Eglise | The entrance shaft must be secured, with participants required to follow a guide rope from outside to past the entrance gate and then be secured by a guide all the way to the bottom of the shaft. The guide is secured with the safety line. The “Pas de la mort” must also be secured using a rope that is hauled in by a guide. The guide is secured with the safety line. |
